Believe it or not

After having major heart surgery, a pacemaker, Marfan Syndrome, and a hernia operation find out what happened when I applied for reasonably priced term life insurance.

My own personal story about getting an online term life insurance quote

Listen to my brutally honest true story

Here's my story and I am sticking to it. I was born with what is called Marfan Syndrome. Abraham Lincoln had the same thing. I have been told, if he hadn't be shot in Ford's theatre, he probably would have died from Marfan Syndrome sometime in his near future.

In today's world, the part of Marfan Syndrome that kills can be corrected with some very serious heart surgery. I have survived the surgery and hope to live a long and happy life. I did end up needing to have a pacemaker installed, and there are about a hundred different things that could still go wrong. Basically, what I am saying is that I am a terrible health risk, but I am still likely to live to the national life expectancy average. I am 44 years old now, and I had the heart surgery 14 years ago.

When I recently applied for even more life insurance, every company turned me down. Truthfully, knowing my own health history and the risks of my condition, I don't think I could have trusted any company who would issue me life insurance. So why you ask, am I writing this story?

Here are the points I want to make:

  1. First, I want to point out that I have two existing life insurance policies. The first and largest I got when I was 29 years old. The second policy is part of a group plan through my wife's school district. I really didn't need or could afford my first policy at the time I bought it. I knew it was important to own life insurance and it just gets more expensive as you get older. When I bought the insurance, I didn't have a family or have the slightest clue that anything was wrong with me and that I would need life-saving heart surgery a year later.

My point is this, don't wait until you think you can afford life insurance, or you might actually need it, before you start shopping for it.

  2. Second, even if you have had some medical problems in the past or worry about your health, go ahead and apply, all they can say is no.

This is a free service. It didn't cost me a cent to apply for a quote. Each of the five companies who contacted me worked very hard to find me an affordable policy. They were all very courteous, timely, and respectful of my time. Every company representative that I spoke to was an absolute professional.
